“All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flower of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.” 1Peter1:24-25

There is great comfort knowing that the word of the Lord is an absolute constant.  He is the same today as He was yesterday and will continue to be tomorrow.  We must always remember that He is unchangeable, unlike ourselves.  We are a constant work in progress.

I think back to who I was before Christ and am so thankful for becoming a new creation washed in the glory of Jesus. “The glory that does not fade with time or circumstance.  God is always the same.  When we invite Him to reign supreme over us, we are in Him.  We die to self to live in the one and only True God.  He dwells within us.  The power of God is mighty.  Think about it…with His breath He created Heaven, Earth, all that dwells on and in the earth and its waters; the animals, plants and of course all of mankind.  With a breath.  All we can do with our breath is blow out candles and a lot of hot air.  God creates life.  His power is greater than we can imagine. He raises from the dead that which is destroyed, lifting to heaven all of His saints.  He is powerful.  The power; the very essence of God is within us, in our Spirit.  Christ’s sacrifice filled us with the power of God.

So, while our earthly bodies may wither and fall, we are always and forever will be, filled with the Holy Spirit of God.  We are empowered by the Almighty to live righteous and holy lives.  Without Him we are wholly incapable.  We are merely existing without the Spirit of the Lord.  Although some who have much may beg to differ.  Their things and status define them, but it all fades away.  Not God’s glory, it is always the same, ever-present, filling us with the absolute perfect peace that only the Maker of Heaven and Earth can supply.  We are blessed to serve a God who so humbly came to earth to rescue us and give us the hope of eternal life in Him.

I am going to define myself by the God I serve, are you?

Father,
My glory is fleeting.  It is temporal and selfish.  I am nothing without You.  You fill me with your power to ask in Your name the desires of my heart in Your will.  I humbly serve you and ask that You prepare me each day to live out loud my love for You!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
