All about my love for the Lord

I know a princess….

Nadia and Caroline

“…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Oh, the joy to see those we love in Heaven.  There will great rejoicing.  I imagine all of those dear friends who have physical limitations on this earth, their bodies will be whole and perfect in the very image of Jesus Christ.  I get especially excited when I think of my sweet friend Nadia.

Nadia is a delightful friend.  She is 8.  She is effervescent.  The Spirit of the Lord bubbles up from her heart and soaks anyone who has the honor of loving her.  Nadia dances for the Lord.  She is a worship dancer.  She expresses her love and praise for Jesus through movement.  She is an artist.  Creating beautiful drawings and delighting in the beauty of God’s art…the majestic outdoors.  She covets rainbows and flowers.  She sees the magnificence in the churning of ocean waves and the green of the botanical gardens.  God has given her a gift of insight.  She is a champion of His goodness and mercy.  Nadia is an amazing little girl.  Nadia has spina bifida, and yet, she is not defined by her limitations, she is defined by her capabilities and her love for the Lord. Nadia is courageous.

I have imagined what those days in Heaven will be like.  Of course, I am limited by my own human understanding.  In my mind’s eye I can see Nadia gleefully dancing in the Throne Room in front of the Lord.  I imagine her on two strong legs; twirling and spinning and delighting in His brilliance.  Until that day, I will rejoice in His goodness as I watch Nadia dance here on earth for the King.  I will praise the Lord for the glint in her eyes and the tilt of her head and the softness in the way her little hands bend in the very fashion of a prima-ballerina.  She is beautiful.  She is a princess of the Lord.

Today our little princess will share her journey with a classroom full of her peers.  She will, at age 8, educate children, who by earthly standards have capable bodies.  She will show them that normal is relative to their own situations and that in one way or another none of us is whole.  None of us is whole.  Our physical exterior may seem whole.  We may walk on two legs.  We all have limitations.  We can chose to be defined by them, or like Nadia, we can chose to be defined by our capabilities.

Dear Father God,
Thank you for Nadia.  She embodies your gift of HOPE.  She is generous beyond words with Your love.  It is an honor and a blessing to call her friend and sister.  Lord, please remind us when we start to pity ourselves and our circumstances that you are sovereign and you created us all in Your image with very specific purpose.  Please remind us that we are to live a life defined by YOU and not by what limits us!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
