All about my love for the Lord

To sir with love…

on September 4, 2012

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

My husband answered the call to teach.  He had spent decades in the business world. The Lord blessed us with a job loss in 2009.  This loss set Rick on a path he had desired to traverse since he was a young man.  Today he will start his second year of teaching.

Rick teaches in an alternative school.  Some call it ‘babysitting’.  The students he teaches, mostly boys, have had a bevy of troubles in their lives.  Many come from single parent families.  Some have never met their fathers.  He teaches students who have experienced more hurt and heartache in their young lives than many of us will ever endure.  He teaches those who are, by society’s standards, castaways…the unlovable.

I have watched, over the course of the year, the Lord transform my husband.  He has taken his gifts and magnified them for this call to teach.  The Lord has equipped Rick with the patience, grace and understanding these children need.  He has cemented in his heart not a desire to babysit…but rather a desire to make a difference.  To set these young men and women on a path that will take them out of their situations.  He desires that they make something out of themselves and dispel the lies society tells the; that they will never amount to anything. He has answered the call to be the hands, feet and heart of Christ.  His sole desire is to impart a sense of worth in the lives of those who have been told they are unworthy.  They all have worth…they have been created in the image of God.  If one life is transformed, the work of the Lord will be fulfilled.  I trust the God has called the right man for the job.

So…today I am sure my sweet husband is filled with first day jitters…and that’s good!  He will do a great work for the Lord.  God doesn’t promise easy or clean or even nice, but He does promise to be with us always.

Father…
Please go before Rick and his students.  Fill their hearts with a peace that surpasses understanding.  Lord, I pray that they grow in You this year and that they all feel loved and nurtured. I pray that they would desire, crave something more for their lives.  I pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
